BAS or Backup Assistance System
The Backup Assistance System (BAS) is a system that minimizes the risk of collision for forklifts with drivers by monitoring areas of the vehicle that the driver cannot see. The BAS warns the driver acoustically and visually if the forklift gets too close to a fixed or moving object. This compact system is based on a TiM3xx 2D LiDAR sensor that only lights up when the forklift is in reverse, thus avoiding false alarms during forward travel. The detection area can be extended by adding another sensor.
In addition to an activation that can engage reverse gear, it also includes a 3-level visual signal and a configurable buzzer with acoustic signals up to 98 dB. Its detection area can be extended with a second TiM 3xx LiDAR sensor. It also has two warning fields.
Based on a 2D-LiDAR sensor, the BAS backup assistance system is mounted at the rear of the truck with a downward sloping field of view. Its surface detection system also enables the identification of fine objects. Thanks to freely definable fields, the approach of an object can be displayed in several steps. The system's digital switching outputs can be used to directly control signaling devices such as lamps or buzzers.
Key Features
- Allows the operator to stay focused on the task at hand while reducing accidents and damage.
- No constant alerts or flashing lights reduces operator fatigue.
- The BAS does not override the forklift control system, the operator remains in full control.
- Low energy consumption
- Kits available for trucks and electrical systems of different voltage
- Does not require additional equipment or integration of potential obstructive components
Your advantages
- Assists the driver when reversing and does not distract him when driving forward.
- Active warning through acoustic and visual signals
- Detection of stationary and moving objects - no wiring of transmitter and receiver required
- Compact stand-alone system for easy integration and installation
- Cost-effective solution for retrofitting a wide range of vehicles due to different voltage and power schemes
- Low power consumption reduces the power consumption of the vehicle battery
In short
- Activation of the system by engaging reverse gear
- Warning concept: 3-level visual signal and configurable buzzer with acoustic signals up to 98 dB
- Two adjustable warning fields per sensor
- Detection area can be extended with a second LiDAR TiM3xx sensor
- Control unit regulates the circuit and power supply
The scalable monitoring area enables reliable object detection and thus prevents collisions. This helps to improve the workflow in the internal processes of storage, handling and transport in logistics.
Domains of application
- Accident prevention
- Smooth internal storage, handling and transport processes
- Driver assistance
Technical data - overview and application examples
Functionality - main system components - mounting options - Technology
Flexible sensor mounting positions and scalable monitoring areas
Example 1 : one LiDAR Example 2 : two LiDAR (Top/bottom) Example 3 : two LiDAR (left/right)
Customizable monitoring fields (technology)
Easy configuration of the two customizable monitoring areas per sensor by use of SOPAS:
- Warning field 1 - Pushing alarm tone
- Warning field 2 - Solid alarm tone
Three-Stage warning concept (technology)
Customizable warning fields
- Each of the sensors features a field of view of 270 degrees (maximum aperture angle).
- The monitored area is divided into monitoring fields: warning field 1 and warning field 2.
- The warning fields are used to monitor various individually adjustable minimum distances to an object.
Lighted signal bar
- Supports the driver with visual alarms
- Depending on the area monitored, the light bar emits additional acoustic warning signals.
BAS (Backup Assistance System)
Warning concept - system feedback to the driver and status indications
System variants - reasonable product combinations
- System variants available for electric motors (18V-72V) or internal combustion engines (12V-24V).
- The system is modular and allows for a 1 or 2 sensor configuration.
- BAS - One detection zone - Many variants - Large control box - Standard signal bar and buzzer
- BAS 2.0 - Flexible detection zone(s) - 4 part numbers - Much smaller control box - Easier to mount light stack with integrated buzzer
- Single scanner, similar use to current version
- Two scanners, to cover the bottom blind spot
- Two scanners, to cover a wider area
